A Brief Introduction to Shanghai Jiao Tong University Press(SJTU Press)
The Book Translation Institute of Nan Yang Public School(the predecessor of Shanghai Jiao Tong University) — the earliest Chinese university publishing house was formally set up at the end of the 19th century. With its ambitious goal of “providing support to talent cultivation” and “acquiring a profound knowledge of the achievements of other countries around the world” the Institute organized the translation and publication of a number of popular books including Adam Smith’s An Inquiry into the “Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations” which was translated by the renowned translator Yan Fu.
